It sounds so easy: create a healthy lifestyle and lose weight. The following aspects are important:
- Vary as much as you can in what you eat
- Control your portions
- Practice food safety
- Exercise
- Create an emotional balance
Variation in your food means that it contains fats, proteins, carbohydrates, water, vitamins and minerals. The first three groups contain calories, but you can get water and vitamins and minerals for "free" if you choose right.

It means that you do not ignore any of the food groups that we know. Eat enough bread, potatoes, pasta/grains, beans and legumes, vegetables and fruits. Eat dairy, meat, eggs and/or vegetarian products (if you do not use meat). Eat fish twice a week if possible. Use healthy fats. Make sure that you are well hydrated. Snacks and alcohol can be used but they are limited. All these groups are part of life, so why ignore them?
Reading and understanding food labels is very important if you want to understand what you eat and understand what you can change towards a better lifestyle. It is also important to have a realistic view of what is healthy and what not. Fast weight loss is often not the most healthy option. Healthy eating is.
Then there is food safety. Good food is safe food.
When it comes to exercise, some ignore it and others totally exaggerate it. But what kind of exercise is good for you when you are obese and how intense should you shake that booty?
A lot of overweight people struggle with issues that influence their emotional balance. I dare to say that a balanced person does not over eat. We need to focus on the problems that cause our eating too much.
